Distill — Privacy Policy
Extension: Distill (Chrome Extension)
Developer: CyberScryb LLC
Last updated: April 29, 2026
The Short Version
Distill does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. It does not track you. It does not phone home. What you do in your browser stays in your browser.
What Distill Does
Distill is a Chrome extension that processes web page content locally in your browser. It reads the content of the current tab when you activate it — and only when you activate it. Nothing runs in the background without your action.
Data Collection
We collect nothing. Specifically:
- We do not collect your browsing history
- We do not collect the content of pages you visit
- We do not collect your IP address or location
- We do not collect any personally identifiable information
- We do not use analytics or tracking inside the extension
- We do not store anything on external servers on your behalf
Permissions Explained
Chrome extensions must declare permissions upfront. Here's what Distill requests and why:
- activeTab — Lets the extension read the content of the tab you're currently viewing, but only when you click the extension icon. It cannot access tabs you're not actively using.
- storage — Used to save your preferences (like settings or options you've configured) locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. This data stays on your machine.
- scripting — Allows the extension to run its processing logic on the current page when you activate it.
If Distill does not need a specific permission, it doesn't request it. We follow the principle of least privilege.
Local Storage Only
Any data Distill saves — such as your preferences or settings — is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser's extension data.
No Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties. There is no data to share — we don't collect any.
No Background Activity
Distill only activates when you explicitly click the extension icon. It does not run scripts in the background, does not monitor your browsing activity passively, and does not communicate with external servers unless you trigger an action that requires it.
Children's Privacy
Distill is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
